Maximum speed limits
New speed limits of 90km/h for learners and 100km/h for P1 licence holders.FAQs
New speed restrictions for learners and P1
New speed restrictions apply to all learner drivers (including L1 and L2 licence holders) and P1 licence holders.
Learner drivers now have a maximum speed limit of 90km/h regardless of the maximum posted speed limit. This means the maximum speed limit is now 90km/h, even in a 110km/h zone. This allows learners to gain experience driving at faster speeds from the start of their licensing journey before progressing to solo driving.
P1 licence holders have a maximum speed limit of 100km/h regardless of the maximum posted speed limit. This means P1 drivers can now drive at 100km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
P2 licence holders continue to have no speed restrictions imposed on their licence.
Motorcycle learner and P1 licence holders continue to have a maximum speed limit of 80km/h.
Remember, a speed limit is the maximum speed you can drive in good road and weather conditions. You should always adjust your speed to suit the road, weather and vehicle conditions.
